CENSUS INFORMATION

With a current presence in Allen, Hamilton, Lake, Marion, Porter, St. Joseph, and Tippecanoe Counties, the Indiana Latino Institute, Inc. has seen a tremendous growth in the number Hispanic Hoosiers within the past five to seven years.

According to the US Census Bureau, the nation’s Hispanic population increased 1.4 million to reach 45.5 million on July 1, 2007, or 15.1 percent of the estimated total U.S. population of 301.6 million. The estimate Hispanic or Latino population in the state of Indiana is listed under the 2006 American Community Survey as 299,398 with a margin of error of +/- 2,090. The last decennial census taken in the year 2000 resulted with a total population of 6,080,485 in Indiana, out of which 214,536 were Hispanic or Latino. This means that the state has seen an estimated increase in the Latino population of 84,862 from 2000 to 2006.
